When I think of Labor day Carnival on
Eastern
Parkway in Brooklyn New York,The first thing comes
to mind is the huge crowd and the aroma of flavorful
delicacies protruding through the small tents that
makes up the vendor's booths.
I usually ride the subway to
Utica avenue and Eastern Parkway where the Parade
is forming and as I walk up the subway steps to
the streets along the barricades where the uniform
officers stands and the anxious revelers waits
patiently.
As I watch the photographers set up
their equipment and the spectators count down the
minutes to the first mas band, I usually have a
overwhelming feeling of Joy and togetherness a
feeling of Oneness or unity.
I walk down the median on the Parkway
checking out the cookouts on the sidewalks in
front of the buildings along the Parade route and
as I pass the individual masqueraders trying to
locate their bands ,at that very moment I realize
that Labor day Carnival is a gigantic block
party and a Parade all in one. There are music
playing and flags flying in front every building.
The smiles on the faces of the people that stands
along the parade route eagerly awaiting the carnival
reminds me that this is the biggest show in New
york City.It is like a Broadway Show on Eastern
Parkway and to many of us Its the greatest show
in the universe.
